2007-08 Audition Information

 Lancaster County Youth Symphony/Wind Ensemble andJunior Orchestra

Sponsored by the Musical Art Society of Lancaster

Auditions for the Lancaster County Youth Symphony, Wind Ensemble and Junior Orchestra will be held on Sunday, October 7,2007,at Stager Hall on the Franklin and Marshall College campus (see link below for map of F&M Campus).  Anyone wishing to audition should report at the times listed below.  Percussion auditions will take place at Barshinger Hall, but all students should report to Stager first for sign-in. Sign up on your audition room's door. Results will be mailed to you.

Audition Requirements: 

Lancaster County Youth Symphony/Wind Ensemble

Scales:  Students should be prepared to play C, G, D, A, E, F, Bb, Eb and  Ab major scales in two or three octaves, and chromatic scale in at least two octaves. you can find a copy of the scales at the PMEA District 7 website. Click on Festival Audition Information, then Scale Requirements, to see specifics.  Scales must be memorized. Please Note: You are only required to play up to 4 sharps/flats, not 7. The District 7 page is listed so you have a copy of the scales for your convenience, as a printout.

Solo:  Students should be prepared to play either the District 7 solo, the LLMEA County Orchestra audition selection, or a solo of a similar level.

Sight-reading:  Students will perform sight-reading material chosen by the conductor.

 

Lancaster County Junior Orchestra (All auditioning students must be accompanied by an adult.)

Scales:  Students should be prepared to play C, G, D, A, F, and B flat in two octaves where possible.  All scales must be memorized. Percussionists should know most of the 26 Standard American drum rudiments and be able to demonstrate technique on bass drum, cymbals and accessories.  Mallet and timpani experience is a plus.

Solo:  Students should be prepared to play a solo of their choice showing their best musical and technical skills.

Sight-reading:  Students will perform sight-reading material chosen by the conductor.

 

Orchestra/Wind Ensemble Requirements:

Youth Symphony/Wind Ensemble - Grades 9-12  Three concerts will be performed per season.   Attendance at all rehearsals and concerts is required. If for some reason you have an attendance issue, please DO NOT email the website.

Junior Orchestra  - Grades 4-8  Three concerts will be performed per season. Attendance at all rehearsals and concerts is required.

**All selected members will pay a $30.00 membership fee due at the first rehearsal. **
